Northern Flicker Watercolor

"Northern Flicker"

I saw this bird for the first time last year in my garden.  I saw him again yesterday, so I thought I would paint him.  He is such a unique bird, so colorful and quite a bit bigger than all the birds I normally see.

Update 2018.  I see a lot of these flickers in the park next to my house. I just wish I had the opportunity to take a photo.  I also realized that I painted the above photo with grapes on the stems....at the time I believe it was spring, and grapes don't grow until the fall....my bad.

Thanks for stopping by!
