Longing for some warm weather!!!!

February 24, 2009

After sitting at my sewing maching for the last week, I was drawn finally to my easel to paint. I think the longing for some warm weather inspired me to paint this woman. Its almost like a self portrait of some sorts. Although I wish I didn't have any wrinkles like this woman..... I do love tulips and the warmth of the summer sun, and the warm evenings sitting outside listening to the crickets. This painting brings me back to a style I had long forgotten. I used to paint like this all the time, but changed into an illustration type of style lately. Not sure, but getting back to my grass roots is a change I needed. It seems like I am trying so many things trying to find that niche I long for.

A very common thread, common desire these days I think Shelley -- that longing for, looking for the "niche", the "style" the "who am I" with what I do in my art or writing...I think the journey itself is what we are meant to do...to try new things, to go back to things we did before with ease. I also think winter is a time of deeper reflection...almost an enforced look inward.

Your painting is beautiful...the wrinkles add character!! And I too long for summer, for warmth and this painting certainly brings forth those feelings!

She is beautiful. I love the sun and the stars. like she is looking forward and yet holds on to the past.
I have to agree with Sherry. I've been going through the same sort of thing. I am constantly trying to perfect or reinvent myself/ my style. And yes it is all about the journey.

I love this piece, the style is lovely, but all your work is.

I am going through the same feelings, with my work and life, too. I am trying different styles and changing myself all the time. But, I love the creativity in it all.
